Mfg. Raphael Tuck & Sons Artist Initials MH Poetry / Verse: Fannie Goddard & Eden Hooper Circa: 1886 A very Rare and Excellent example of a Raphael Tucks & Sons boxed Double Sided Silk Fringed Gift Christmas Card. The box has a wonderful winter scene and hand inlaid trim. The box set was bought at auction with the two cards shown, but the pink / yellow flowered card was probably added and did not come with the original box and is a Many Happy Returns / Birthday Card. These gift cards were sent through the mail in the box and were quite pricey even at today's standards. These cards were in the $30.00 range in the late 1800's! The horizontal card reads: "A Happy Christmas. Not in the hangin of the walls about, The full delightfulness of Christmas lies, But in the taking and giving out of Happiness, with those we love or prize. - Eden Hooper" ~ The other side reads: "God bless thee dear, shield thee from every care, Grant that thy like may be from perils clear, Give thee of his own peace an ample share, Guard thee through every day of this New Year. - Fannie Goddard" You will also find this card in our New Year's Section. |
